Starter Company Plus (Ontario): Who Qualifies and How to Apply
Last updated October 9, 2026
Starter Company Plus is an Ontario program that gives eligible entrepreneurs a grant plus advisory support. This summary follows the province's own page at ontario.ca/page/starter-company-plus (updated September 23, 2026). It is independent and not affiliated with the Government of Ontario. Confirm everything on the official page, because rules change.
What it offers
- A grant of up to $5,000.
- One-on-one guidance from a Small Business Enterprise Centre advisor.
- Workshops and seminars on topics from writing a business plan to budgeting and marketing campaigns.
- Access to mentors with start-up or expansion experience.
Who is eligible, as published
- You are 18 or older.
- You are an Ontario resident and a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- You are not attending school full-time or returning to school.
The page does not state a business-age limit in the part this summary covers, so ask your advisory centre about it before you plan around the program.
The contribution
You must be able to contribute in cash or in kind, and the contribution must be at least 25% of the grant amount.
How to apply
You apply through an Ontario Small Business Enterprise Centre (the province's page links to the list of centres). A business plan and cash-flow numbers will be central to that conversation, so prepare them first.
Next steps
Build the plan and the numbers before the meeting. The Canadian Startup Funding Kit ($39) has a 36-month cash-flow model, a plan template and a document checklist. See also the documents checklist. No guarantee of funding: the program decides.
