How to Apply for the Ontario Job Grant, Step by Step
Last updated October 9, 2026
This is a step-by-step walk through applying for the Ontario Job Grant, based only on what the province's page says: ontario.ca/page/ontario-job-grant (updated August 31, 2026). Where the page is silent, this guide says so instead of guessing. Confirm everything on the official page.
Step 1: Check you qualify
Read who qualifies and run your numbers in the free calculator. Employers with fewer than 100 employees pay at least one-sixth of the cost.
Step 2: Choose training that fits the rules
It must come from an eligible third-party provider and avoid the exclusions: see training that does not qualify. It must also be completed within 52 weeks of its start date.
Step 3: Gather documents
The page lists a signed job offer (with name, title and start date) for new hires, and conflict-of-interest attestation forms. Have your course quote and provider details ready too.
Step 4: Apply online
The application is submitted online at the Employment Ontario OJG portal. Applications are accepted year-round. The program allows only one application at a time, so put all your trainees in one.
Step 5: Your consultant
After your application is received, an Employment and Training Consultant is assigned to it. All applicants are notified of the outcome, whether successful or not.
What the official page does not say
The page, as read for this guide, does not state whether training can begin before your application is approved, how and when you are paid, or what proof of completion and payment you must submit afterwards. Do not assume. Ask your consultant these questions before you pay for or start any course:
- Can the training start before approval, or must I wait?
- How and when is the grant paid, and what do I pay up front?
- What proof of completion and proof of payment do you need?
- Which costs count as eligible training costs?
Prepare faster
The Ontario Job Grant DIY Pack ($29) has an application checklist, a 25-trainee estimator and a ten-question course check. Independent; not affiliated with the Government of Ontario. The province decides every application.
