Ontario Small Business Enterprise Centres: Free Help for Founders
Last updated October 9, 2026
Ontario funds a network of local business advisory centres that give free help to people starting or growing a business. This page summarises what they offer, based on the province's own page, Small Business Enterprise Centre locations (updated October 9, 2026). The province's page uses the names "Small Business Enterprise Centre" and "Small Business Advisory Centre" for the same network. Confirm everything there, because services change. K.M.E. is independent and not affiliated with the Government of Ontario.
What the centres offer, as published
- Free consultations with a qualified business consultant.
- Review of business plans.
- Consultations through a lawyer or accountant referral service.
- Workshops and seminars.
- Guidance on licences, permits, registration, regulations and other documents.
- Import and export information, and intellectual property guidance (patents, copyrights, trademarks).
- Mentoring and networking opportunities.
- Succession planning services.
- Internet and computer access for business research and planning, and up-to-date information and directories for entrepreneurs.
Who they serve
The page describes them as a resource for entrepreneurs who want to start or grow a business. It states no demographic restrictions.
How to find yours
The province's page has a searchable directory by city, with addresses and website links.
How this connects to funding
The same centres are where you apply for Starter Company Plus, which offers a grant of up to $5,000 with advisory support. A centre can review your plan before you take it to a lender, so bring your numbers: the Canadian Startup Funding Kit ($39) has a 36-month cash-flow model and a plan template, and the documents checklist is free.
